The Benchmade15500-3 Meatcrafter is a hunting knife with a trialing point blade made of advanced CPM-S45VN steel, designed for game, filleting, precision cutting, and meat boning.
The Benchmade 15500-3 Meatcrafter can be described as a hybrid hunting knife with a straight and flexible blade, which will be ideal for the handling of hunted game, as well as for home and outdoor cooking.
Benchmade 15500-3 Meatcrafter - hunting knife in CPM-S45VN steel.
The Benchmade 15500-3 Meatcrafter is a lightweight fixed (fixed head) knife with full tang construction. Knives made from a single piece of steel (full tang) are resistant to damage and breakage, so they are commonly used for heavier ones by hunters, survival and bushcraft enthusiasts and soldiers. The knife has a thin blade (2.3 mm) as long as 154 mm, so we can easily fillet, slice and tribble meat. CPM-S45VN steel is used for the blade, which creates a new quality in the field of knife steel metallurgy.
CPM-S45VN steel is a martensitic stainless steel designed as an improvement of S35VN steel. It contains more nitrogen for higher hardness, more chromium for better corrosion resistance, more vanadium for longer edge sharpness and wear resistance, and more niobium for easier machining. This super steel is hardened to a hardness of 60-62 HRC, with the result that the knife blade will not let us down even in demanding and prolonged field work.
CPM 345VN steel is a high-alloy stainless steel with excellent edge retention, enhanced corrosion resistance and moderate toughness. These properties make CPM-S45VN the ideal steel for building high-end hunting and survival knives. To obtain carbides of extraordinary hardness, S45VN has a high content of vanadium/niobium elements and chromium responsible for corrosion resistance. Vanadium carbides are currently ranked among the hardest carbides of stainless steel, so the blade retains its sharpness for an extremely long time and is extremely resistant to wear. The key role of the knife is cutting ability, the S45VN maintains sharpness much longer compared to its predecessor S35VN. This difference can be felt when planing and cutting demanding fibrous materials, cardboard and rope.
Such properties make S45VN steel ideal for a skinning hunting knife, kitchen knife and outdoor knife.
The Benchmade 15500-3 Meatcrafter uses a Trailing Point type blade. The characteristic feature of such a blade is a slightly raised tip above (or in line with) the back of the knife. The flexible head modeled after oriental scimitars has a blade with a prominently exposed belly, which contributes to excellent performance and ease of cutting. Thanks to its 28° SelectEdge™ technology (14° per side), the knife has a thin, perfectly sharp cutting edge that excels at precision cutting, slicing, filleting and boning meat. As a result, the 15500-3 Meatcrafter guarantees extremely clean cuts and causes much less force to be put into the work being done. The knife's handle is made of G10 plastic with non-slip texturing that ensures a good grip even when wearing gloves. The contoured grip has a large hole for a lanyard or safety cable. For safe carrying of the knife there is a sheath made of orange Boltaron, a thermoplastic material with high resistance to damage, temperature and moisture. The sheath is compatible with the Tek-lok mounting buckle.
