The Kershaw Eris 1881 is an effective EDC knife, which uses an 8Cr13MoV steel blade, a blade support system and steel cladding coated with titanium nitride.
Eris 1881 combines all the elements that should be found in a real edc knife: functionality, comfort of use, and proven solutions and materials.
Proven steel
The 84 mm long blade is made of the popular 8Cr13MoV steel hardened to 57-59 HRC. This Chinese steel has good corrosion resistance and hardenability comparable to AUS6.
The 8Cr13MoV steel blade is perfect for everyday use, due to corrosion resistance, good sharpness and easy sharpening, for which a pocket whetstone is enough.
Utility blade
The blade with a usable drop-point profile is covered with a double finish: satin on the amphibian and stonewashed on the cut.
Due to the use of a sharp point, a concave cut and a long cutting edge with a gentle curvature, the knife has good cutting and penetrating properties, and the blade does not get stuck in the material being cut. The middle part of the ridge has been cut, creating a place to rest the finger during the precise cut.
An additional point of support is provided by transverse cutters at the base of the back. The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 2.8 mm, which is a compromise between the durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.
Comfort of use
The blade can be quickly and conveniently unfolded with one hand using a fin / flipper. The operation takes place in a very natural and easy way and enables comfortable use of the knife by right and left-handed people.
Mechanism supporting the unfolding of the blade
The opening process is facilitated by the SpeedSafe support mechanism. When you press down on the pinball fin or pry the pin, the support mechanism activates an internal spring that dynamically unfolds the blade, making the knife ready for use in a fraction of a second.
Robust lock
The monolithic frame-lock blockade, considered one of the most durable locking mechanisms, effectively protects against accidental folding of the blade. The lock, like the flipper and the pin, can be operated with one hand.
Simple and stylish
The handle of the knife is made of smooth stainless steel cladding. The manufacturer gave up milling and texturing the handle. The element that provides a stable grip is a two-stage cutout for fingers and a flipper, which, after unfolding the blade, acts as a handguard.
The applied titanium nitride coating makes the entire design of the knife very modern and attractive. Discreet carrying of the knife in the pocket is possible thanks to a spring clip, with the possibility of fixing in 2 positions (left and right).
The handle also has a hole for attaching a decorative paracord braid, which is very popular among most knife owners.
