The Kershaw Camp 5 1083 is a survival knife with a full tang construction, with a blade made of D2 hard tool steel and a comfortable polyamide handle.
A hard work knife
The Kershaw Camp 5 1083 has a full-tang (full tang) construction which means it is made of a single piece of steel. Knives of such construction are extremely resistant to damage and are not afraid of hard work, which is why they are widely used by enthusiasts of survival, bushcraft, as well as hunters and soldiers.
The knife is cut from D2 hard carbon steel, which cuts very aggressively, is characterized by high abrasion and wear resistance and long-lasting working sharpness, therefore it is perfect even as an outdoor tool.
Highly hardened steel D2, although it is a carbon steel, also has a high corrosion resistance, which is due to the increased content of chromium and an admixture of vanadium.
When choosing a knife made of such steel, it is worth getting a diamond sharpener, because sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and ineffective.
The blade with a typically working clip-point profile has an optimal length of 122 mm and a thickness of as much as 5 mm, thanks to which the knife will be useful both for preparing a meal and for baring wood. Transverse cutters have been made on a part of the ridge, providing a solid point of support for the thumb.
The blade has a flat cut, which provides an excellent compromise between durability and smoothness of the cut. The head has a very practical finish, the so-called stonewashed, which is done when the blade is bathed in gravel or small abrasive stones.
The resulting irregular structure hides scratches and abrasions during use very well.
Comfortable grip
The linings are fixed to the spindle with steel screws and are made of a hard FRN material, i.e. glass fiber reinforced nylon. The profiled shape of the handle and the checkered texture make the knife very stable in the hand, and its use is very comfortable.
Polymer scabbard
The set includes a solid polymer sheath, made by injection. The sheath can be worn at the waist, attached to the equipment, and after using additional straps (not included), it can be conveniently stabilized on the thigh. A metal snap fastener protects against slipping or losing the tool.
