The Gerber Fire Starteris a high-performance flint with a ferrocerium rod that works in all weather conditions. The rod, about 12 cm long, is made of ferrocerium, a synthetic pyrophoric alloy that produces hot sparks when struck, reaching temperatures as high as 3000°C. The chair works even when wet, in the rain, during snowfall, at any altitude and latitude. It even allows for about 7,000 flints.

The grip is made of polymer with non-slip texturing. It is recommended to use the back of the knife, not its cutting edge, for flinting. It is necessary to remove the outer protective coating for proper operation. Inside the tang there is a small space, for example, for a fire starter.
