The Benchmade Shootout is a Double Action OTF automatic knife. Which means that both the process of extending and retracting the blade is done automatically. Thanks to such functionality, the knife can be easily and quickly unfolded under stress also with a "weak hand". The blade is unfolded by moving the massive slider forward, folding only requires reversing the slider in the opposite direction.

Z-Wear - steel for the most demanding
The blade made of Z-Wear (Crucible CPM Z-Wear) is for users who do not recognize compromises. A hardness of 63-65 HRC translates into exceptionally long sharpness retention, so the knife remains effective even after long and intensive use. That's less sharpening, more real work and the assurance that your blade won't fail when you need it most.
Z-Wear is an improved evolution of the legendary CPM Cru-Wear - a steel designed for maximum performance. Its high wear resistance makes the cutting edge wear out more slowly, while maintaining excellent resistance to cracking and chipping.
Thanks to its carefully balanced composition - high carbon, chromium and vanadium content - Z-Wear steel offers an ideal combination of hardness, strength and structural stability. In practice, this translates into a blade that cuts aggressively, works predictably and can withstand heavy loads, whether in everyday EDC, outdoor or survival applications.
When choosing a hard-steel knife, be sure to get adiamond sharpener, as sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and inefficient.

The blade is coated with Flat Earth PVD Battlewash (gas-phase coating), which protects the blade from scratches, strengthens its hardness and provides additional protection against corrosion.
Grivory plastic was used for the handle, making the knife's handle lightweight and rigid. Thanks to precise 3D machining, the handle not only has a modern design, but also an exquisite grip, which was achieved through the use of a rough texture and profiled shape.
