The Benchmade 581BK-04 Barrage is an everyday knife featuring a supported CPM-S30V steel blade, a contoured handle with Richlite laminate liners and the proven Axis Lock.
Features of the Benchmade 581BK-04 Barrage Folding Knife:
- High-grade stainless steel: The blade is made of American CPM-S30V steel with a hardness of 58-60 HRC for long-lasting sharpness and excellent cutting properties.
- Universal Blade Profile: Drop point profile with a satin finish to reduce light reflections and make cleaning easier. Flat grind and smooth cutting edge line provide excellent cutting and penetration properties. Transverse cutters on the back of the blade for better finger support for precision tasks.
- Assisted opening: an assisted opening mechanism with an internal spring allows the blade to be instantly unfolded. The double-sided peg allows comfortable operation for both right- and left-handed users.
- Dual safety locks: Heavy-duty, dirt-resistant Axis Lock system for safe operation. Additional lock to prevent accidental opening or closing of the blade during handling.

Utility blade in the Benchmade Barrage EDC folder
The 91mm long blade is made of American CPM-S30V stainless steel. The S30V powder steel from Crucible Industries is hardened to an optimal hardness of 58-60 HRC, so it maintains a high sharpness for a long time, has high mechanical strength, and is also resistant to corrosion.
The blade has been finished with Cerakote coating in Cobalt color. This is an advanced ceramic coating that provides unparalleled protection for the blade against abrasion, corrosion and the effects of extreme conditions. Thanks to its unique ceramic formula, the coating forms a hard and resistant layer on the surface of the blade, while not adversely affecting its sharpness and cutting properties.
Due to the high content of vanadium carbides, the steel is distinguished by its high impact and wear resistance, as well as its excellent cutting properties. Therefore, due to the high hardenings and the nature of CPM-S30V steel, we recommend using diamond whetstones for sharpening.
Benchmade 581BK-04 Barrage with a utility head with a universal profile
The blade with a usable Drop Point profile is finished with a satin (polishing) technique. The matte blade is easier to clean and does not reflect light.
Thanks to the use of a sturdy hilt, a flat grind and a cutting edge with a gently rounded line, the knife penetrates easily and has excellent cutting properties. Transverse cutters have been made on the back of the ridge, allowing a stable finger rest during planing or precision cutting.
The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 3 mm, which is a compromise between durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.

The blade can be conveniently and quickly unfolded with one hand using a double-sided peg, which is convenient for both right and left-handed people.
The opening process is made easier and faster by the assist mechanism. A gentle lift of the double-sided peg activates an internal spring that dynamically unfolds the blade. Such functionality makes the knife ready for use in a fraction of a second.
Two locks in a folding EDC knife
Benchmade's flagship mechanism, the double-sided Axis Lock, valued for its immense mechanical strength, dirt resistance and ease of use for right- and left-handed users, is responsible for work safety.
The knife features an additional locking mechanism that prevents accidental folding and unfolding of the blade during handling. The slide of the second safety mechanism is located on the back of the handle.
Comfortable handle
The knife has Richlite laminate facings for a secure and comfortable grip. Richlite is a durable laminate produced from recycled resin infused paper and natural pulp.
The contoured shape, combined with finger cutouts and slanted grooving, provides excellent knife grip and comfort. The knife's construction is reinforced by solid 420 steel inserts (liners).
